About Ivy

We are the first company in history to create an object that can turn into any other object.

Our revolutionary Smart Matter lets users pick and choose the objects they want to render at will. Its downright awesome to see and use.

But how did the company that builds this awesome product come about? Well, it all started in 2019 at the University of Chicago when Jacob and Benji met at a local dinner spot on 53rd to discuss a powerful new idea they'd come up with: What if one could manufacture tiny blocks that connected and pushed and pulled off of one another? The question stuck with the two. They started building and experimenting at UChicago's nearby Polsky Exchange between classes for months. After the whole college was sent home because of the pandemic, Benji and Jacob returned to Hyde Park in the summer of 2020 and continued work in Benji's apartment.

That summer they christened their new venture 'Ivy', an homage to the way the particles that make up Smart Matter connect and to the ivy that embraces the facades of many of UChicago's iconic gothic buildings.

Since then, the team has come in second in a University of Chicago Booth School of Business startup accelerator program and has developed the complex algorithms underpinning Smart Matter. We've also built the Ivy Studio which allows users to see how they'll interface directly with their Smart Matter.

From here, we're well on our way towards getting Smart Matter into the hands of customers and changing the world.
